April 2007

Wow ... where do I start? We're still here!! How's that? It's been many moons since my last update. Many things have changed in the interim. I won't go into all that. My blood pressure couldn't take it. Let's just say that ... we're still here.

I believe that, in my last update we were within spitting distance of finishing the new record. Okay, that's one thing that has changed. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we've had to take much of the recording back to square one. Making the best out of a bad situation (our new mantra), we took this opportunity to fix a couple of the songs that didn't quite live up to the quality of the rest of the album. So that's a good thing. The record is sounding much better, over all.

The following is taken from a post I made on our band's forum recently. This is the one of the changes I'm very excited about:

Esucarys (in name only) will no longer exist with the release of the new record!

I will not yet say the name we chose. Not until the new site is launched. I brought the name and the new logo to Koelling and we agreed on it almost instantly. Koelling used a bit of the old compu-magic to add some spice to the logo, but the name was an instant success.

Here's why I'm mentioning this now. We will need everyone's help when the time comes, to gather up all the old contacts, dig up old numbers, send out emails, post on forums, whatever you can do to help us spread the word. WE NEED YOU!!!!

Koelling and I have wanted to do this for a very long time, but it just didn't work out. Since "Shadows of the Past" has been SO long in the making, and only a few remember who we are, the time is right. Now.

The new name reflects more about the band (mood, more than anything) than the unpronounceable, becurs'ed, meaningless, pretentiously-prog, mess-of-a-name; Esucarys.

Since the decision to make the change was between ONLY Koelling and I, the decision as to when we will release the name to our friends and fans will be up to us as well. So, please be patient. This (unlike the release of the disc) will be very soon.

I think I can promise that you will not be disappointed.

So, with this in mind, it's safe to say that progress is once again being made. As much as it sickens me that this record is still not completed, I believe the final pay-off will be worth the wait.

Also, Koelling and I have decided that, before the release of Shadows of the Past II (cart before the horse anyone??), we're going to re-record/re-release our first record, "Diary of a Lost Soul". That album had so much potential and promise, but fell flat in the recording/production process. When we listen back to our original demo recordings, it was a great record. But the final product ... I can't even listen to it. It disgusts me. So, we're taking much of the writing back to the drawing board. We're removing many of the corny, lame parts of the album, and replacing them with ideas that will not make us (me) cringe upon hearing them. It'll be the same record, only much better. It will be the way we want it. It will also reflect more of darkness that our sound has evolved into. Basically, it will sound like us.

Keep an ear to the ground. We're on our way!

Steve "The Rooster" Sorrell.

P.S. "The Rooster" is the nickname given to me 25 years ago by my best friend Flip Imhoff. I've started using it again in an effort to make easier the Steve, Steve and Steve situation that we have to deal with in Esucarys. We'll see if it catches on.
