October 2004 Esucarys is continuing to move forward with the recording and writing of their up coming release "Shadows of the Past". Steve Koelling and Steve Sorrell are still playing the roles as a two-man crew until they find the right musicians to fill the roles of the remaining two positions (bass and drums). They are currently auditioning three candidates for the role of recording the drum tracks for the album and are in the process of sending them demo copies of the first nine songs. It is highly possible that more than one drummer will be playing on the album. Their plans to have Steve Sorrell record all of the bass tracks on the final recording seems to be all but set in stone, as they are not worried about finding an official bass player until they begin booking live gigs. Steve Koelling has become the primary producer, working seven days a week on background effects, layering, arrangements, and storyboarding. With a new website up and running, and the general discussion forum back on track, Sorrell and Koelling are feeling very positive about the nucleus of their faithful fans that will play a huge role in launching the album successfully. Their "family" as they are being referred to, is continuing to grow with every passing week, and the fan club has recently added a few new members. So things are really looking up. Both members remember very well the amount of support they received at their CD release concert in Fairfield, CA back in September of 2001 from fans across the States who drove or flew to be part of the experience. Koelling is excited about starting on the artwork for the CD booklet and has already begun to lay out the pages and various designs. Because of the CD being a concept album, the task of making everything work as one complete package is a daunting experience. But, as the music is being finished, and the storyline taking shape in the form of complete songs, rather than ideas tucked away in their heads, he has been able to put into motion his vision and the creativity required to set the production into motion. Although the band has simplified things by reducing their "shadow’s crew" from twelve members to four, they are still offering willing fans to become a part of the album by contributing photographs, ideas, graphic design input, as well their need for models to play the roles of the various characters in the storyline. August 2004 Steve Sorrell and Steve Koelling continue to finish the writing process of "Shadows of the Past" their follow up release to "Diary of a Lost Soul". With a tough year finally behind them, the two members of Esucarys are confident that the immediate future holds nothing but the promise of good things for the band. Although both of them would love to be playing live and sharing their new music (as well as the old) with their loyal fans, they are putting first things first and have decided to worry about the "live line-up" after the CD is mixed, mastered and released. During this period of recording, the band and their fan club president, Scott Leitch, are working on a second newsletter, as well as a fan club CD release which will include a few re-mixes of songs off of "Diary" as well as a few surprises. They are also working on the designing and release of a new line of merchandise which will include hooded sweatshirts and sweatpants. Although neither Sorrell nor Koelling want to curse their positive streak of progress by announcing an expected release date for "Shadows", they are optimisitic that the writing process will be done within the next few weeks, upon which time they will head into the final recording process to lay the drum parts and so on. Most recently they have been blessed by an opportunity to have their website revamped and modified, and are excited that the main source of keeping in touch with their fans around the world is finally moving forward and, like the band, making progress. The new theme and layout directly ties in with the mood and setting of "Shadows". Check out the Studio Diary for more details on the writing and recording process.
